Back to Blogging: Evie's Baptism

Wow, it's been a while.  Guess there is no time like the present to hope back on board.

So on Easter, we got Evie baptized.  It was a lovely service, and Evie didn't cry at all, although I think she was a confused about why we were giving her a hair a rinse with all her clothes on and not in the bathtub.  It was really special to have her baptized in the same church I grew up in and the one we got married in.  It is a little daunting to be making such big promises about teaching someone else about God when you don't feel like you know nearly enough about it yourself.  We will do our best though which is all we can do.

Just before, wondering what is going on!

Do I still have to take a bath tonight?

Special words from the pastor, Ms. Mary

It was a whirlwind trip to and from NC, traveling everyday that we were gone and just having a few hours of visiting.  I wish Eric had more than 10 days vacation for the year, which is really only like five once you take out the Christmas vacation.  Maybe one day he'll have 3 weeks and we'll be able to travel more.

I have been knitting, although there is not a whole lot to show you right now.  I did finish another Huggable Hedgehog, which is my favorite baby gift.  Each one is different and they are so cute!

Another Hedgehog for a new little one arriving in May

There is going to be a wave of babies this year for a bunch of folks I used to work with.  Counting all the folks that I worked with the two years I was there, in the two years and one and a half after there will have been seven babies.  I can't wait to see pictures after the newest ones' arrival!

Baby Girl is Getting Big and a Sock Fail

So we've switched Evie from 3-6 month clothes to 6-9 month clothes, about 2 weeks after she was 6 months.  We've got a lot less of the 6-9 size, so we went shopping so I don't have to wash her clothes every third day or so.  We had enough we could get by, but as it is I feel like I'm doing laundry all the time.  Eric also wanted some zippered jammies for those middle of the night diaper changes--they're so much easier than snaps in the dark.

And those socks I started for Eric....they've been frogged.  Again.  I don't know if something is whacked out with my tension by the time I get around to knitting the sole and connecting it to the instep, but I had extra fabric on the sole that made it look a little crazy.  So instead of doing the unusual construction called for, I'm just going to do a toe up sock with the charts.  As long as I get them done before our wool anniversary, which gives me a little over 3 years.

Which is why I feel quite okay starting another series of projects to alternate with my next design:  a few hedgehogs for some new wee ones making their entrance this year.  Bigger needles+a familiar pattern=progress.  Yay for babies!

Rejoining the World of the Knitting

The house has sold, the move is done (goodbye St Louis, hello Knoxville), and I am officially a stay at home wife, or at least until I become a stay at home mom. I'm just not sure it would be worth finding a job when I think we might be moving in a year or two, with an unknown period of time before the move. So, while I haven't been blogging, I have been knitting:

So
here we have a baby hat loosely based on the umbilical cord hat and matching magic slippers pattern, another hedgehog for our little girl, a gorgeous Aeolian shawl, and the Stella cable cardigan from French Girl Knits.  I think I need to reblock the sweater, since it is a little pointy on the sides, but it should do nicely this winter, especially if the baby belly doesn't recede as quickly as I would like.

Blogger also seems to be doing some odd things with the formatting here, so it is not intentionally odd.

I'm currently working on a BSJ for baby girl, and I need to get buttons on the Presto Chango sweater I made for her with leftovers from the Stella sweater.  I'm also working on a hat concept that I've had in mind for at least a year, and trying to decide what I will do with it once I get a pattern written up.  Should I submit it to a free pattern e-zine, like Knitty?  To a pay-per-pattern e-zine like Twist Collective?  To a traditional magazine like Interweave Knits or Vogue Knitting?  Or should it just be offered on Ravelry as either a free pattern or for sale?  I guess I figure it out after I've got it done.

We had a trip planned to visit Seattle at the end of the May, and it is likely some stash enhancement occured, even though we don't really have the room for it in our townhouse.  (We'll need all the room we can spare for Baby Girl's things.)  The food is really great there as well.  Sometimes I miss living there, but there have been good and bad things about all the places I've lived so far.  We definitely had fun revisiting some old haunts and visiting with a friend still in the area.  It's likely our last big hurrah before Baby Girl is born.

I'll have to write another post including my new stash yarn and hopefully a few baby sweaters with buttons.  We'll see how much more I can finish before the next few weeks!

Lastest FOs

So, I decided that I might as well start off with my last three finished objects:

These are the lastest three of the six huggable hedgehogs I have made this year for baby gifts. Two of my coworkers and one of my cousins are all having babies in January/February, with two girls and one boy in the bunch. The previous three were for boys, so I was happy to be knitting with some more girlie colors. They are a lot of fun to make and I think they are super cute.

Right now I have a lace scarf and a simple shrug on the needles, and both are being made with yarns from the Knitpicks lace sampler. It is
very dangerous to buy so many yards of yarn when it is on sale. I am itching to start something on slightly larger needles, so after I find some fantastic handles, I'm going to start a handbag out of banana fiber yarn my mom gave to me. Since it came with no gauge or care directions, I went searching around the net for some information on this unusual fiber. I ran across this website with a review of the yarn. Thank goodness I have the undyed one. I'll probably end up doing a few test swatches myself to see how it works out and if I can add another yarn for some color.

And now it is time to introduce you to my little boy:

This is little Jack sitting on his pappy's lap on our trip to NC to visit our family. Isn't he sweet?

Time to start clicking the needles!
